Gwilym Starks

Gwilym has been travelling and working in the outdoors for over 25 years and holds qualifications in climbing, mountaineering, kayaking, canoeing, diving and mountain biking as well as having a range of qualifications in education and training, lifeguarding and first aid. He has worked as a Lifeguard, Police Officer, Lecturer, and Head of Outdoor Education and currently runs his own company providing training and consultancy in the outdoors which includes undertaking AALA inspections of outdoor centres on behalf of the HSE.

As a qualified Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and provider of Mountain Training qualifications, Gwilym trains and assesses a range of qualifications from Lowland Leader to Mountain Leader. As a National Trainer Assessor for the Royal Lifesaving Society, Gwilym delivers courses that train lifeguards and trainers, specialising in open water, rivers, and the sea. He also acts as an advisor to the RLSS in the outdoor education sector.

Gwilym has travelled for both work and play to many countries, including riding his motorcycle to all the mainland EU countries (and a few non-EU ones) including visiting the top of Norway in the Arctic Circle. In addition to organising and leading school/college trips in Europe, he has led expeditions in Africa, South America and Asia. He has been leading expeditions for True Adventure since 2016.

Callum Hilder

Mark is extremely passionate about how beneficial and developmental our expeditions can be for young people. Having led his first expedition in the late 80s and since then personally leading in excess of 40 school expeditions coupled with serving for 26 years in the Armed Forces, Mark has developed an instinctive understanding of safety and the benefits of developing world travel.

She has visted many areas of Europe, North Africa and North America; gained hands on experience of expedition life on a trip to Vietnam and has many plans for future travels. A keen walker, Suzanne’s weekends are often spent exploring the local countryside or tackling parts of the UK’s long-distance footpaths.
